GUESTS OF OCTOPUS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

FOR THE  CHILDREN OF NALAUWAKI VILLAGE

The neighbouring village of Nalauwaki makes up 99% of our staff.   We also get a lot of extra help from the people of Nalauwaki with our village visits, permission to hike across their land and in many other ways.

It is a fabulous working relationship that highlights the kindness and generosity of the Fijian people.

So working together we have setup a scholarship program which will be used to pay for the school education of all of the children in the village and to also fund a kindergarten for the children under 6 years of age.

Any surplus funds will then be applied to various other projects like feeding and clothing the poor, improving the water systems in the village etc.

Because of the isolation, the children must attend a boarding school away from the village this means that the cost of educating each child properly is very high, around $800 per child per year.

With many people in Fiji earning just over $2 per hour it makes it very hard to provide a good education for all children all the way through to college.

$1.00 per day, per guest voluntary donation to our room charges. You do of course have a choice whether to support this wonderful project or not.

For most of you, your contribution of the cost equivalent of a banana split will allow all of the children in the village to have an education , something most of us have had by default.

Other Things That Will Really Help

We are also very keen to get more toys, books and clothing for the children for all ages. So if you plan to visit the village when you stay with us , it would be fantastic if you could bring old, unused or unwanted toys, books, clothing etc which could be presented to the village as part of the traditional Sevu Sevu when we visit.

Thank you for helping us, help our friends

Vinadu ( Wayan for thank you)
